The Move and Arrival in VA

Posted by in Family

We were really pushing to get finished with packing and senior portraits in time to get to Virginia for Dean to start to work. We had planned to leave on Thursday afternoon and drive to Texarkana. You know what they say about the best laid plans. We were really late pulling out. Dean had to stop by and take the sign down off the studio. We met at Buccees for gas. By that time, we were both pretty wiped out, so we decided to stop in Waco. Yep! We made…read more

11 Months and Wow, What a Ride!

Posted by in Uncategorized

11 months ago, I posted that Dean had been laid off and needed a job. Things have really changed and since then! A few weeks later, he was offered a job in Austin with a company based out of Virginia. He was really impressed with the company, and it wasn’t long before he was employed. July saw him employed and us going on with life in Round Rock. In September, I went to Chicago to an Essential Bodywear Leadership Conference. It really motivated me to make that promotion. At the…read more

Dean Needs a Job

Posted by in Uncategorized

When we moved here three years ago, we knew it would probably not be permanent. At the time they said a year. After the first year, we started to settle in. At the end of the 2nd year, I found the studio and moved in. In November, the contract he was under ended. Another phase was supposed to kick off, but it hasn’t. He has been trying to find something within his company to do, but they just never found him anything. The next phase has been delayed so much,…read more

Dean made the news

Posted by in Uncategorized

In case you have missed it, there has been a massive amount of flooding in Texas. ┬áLouisiana is now getting it. I have seen photos of even Wyoming and other states much more north being effected. I really am glad God keeps His promises, so we don’t need to start on an ark. Dean had the opportunity last week to go to Houston for a week of disaster relief. He was supposed to do assessments for damage. Because of logistic issues, they were not able to do that. Instead, he…read more

Out of Touch!

Posted by in Uncategorized

My last post was two days before my dad passed away. I wrote a couple of blog posts, but they were never published. They were more for me – a sort of healing. More than four months have passed – a lot happened in those 4 months. I have a folder on my desktop entitled “Rockin the Empty Nest” with images for the blog. How do I catch up? Do I catch up? Do I start where I am and then use those things to fill in? The last one…read more

Working on Goals

Posted by in Uncategorized

A couple my goals for this year were to cook more healthy meals and to spend more time with Dean. I managed to do that today! Stay tuned until the end of the post as you get two recipes tonight (one healthy, one not so much!) We started out the morning at our regular Saturday morning spot in Hutto. After breakfast, we came home and I started working. Dean thinks I work too much at home. When you do most of your work at home, it happens! He suggested we…read more

Texas Inauguration 2015

Posted by in Uncategorized

Dean and I had the privilege to attend the 2015 Texas Inauguration yesterday. It was really good day. We met a lot of really nice Texans who are very proud of their state. We ate really good BBQ from Eddie Deen. I confess to really enjoying a scoop of potato salad and buttermilk pie. The BBQ was good, too. We watched a parade featuring entries from all over the great state of Texas, I was very impressed with Dan Patrick. He said he was a Christian first, then a conservative…read more

Cold Days Call for Hot Soup

Posted by in Uncategorized

Wednesdays are BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) days for me. I was up early so I could be there on time. So much for me following plan. I was ready to go, and I remembered, I really wanted to put soup in the crockpot. I grabbed all the ingredients and got to chopping – after I took the photo of said ingredients. I must say that remembering to take photos of the phases, certainly takes longer. Oops! I just realized I forgot to take one of the finished product. ┬áThere are…read more

A Real Winner Chicken Dinner

Posted by in Cooking, Healthier Choices, Shaping Up

We have logged in quite a few miles since we got our new shoes this week. I get more normal steps, so I haven’t walked quite as far as Dean in the evenings. I also have been taking classes at the gym. I am doing my best to eat healthy. I am trying with Dean, but he still picks out what he wants for lunches, so I am thinking he might not be making the wisest choices. This exercise thing takes a lot of time! It wears me out, and…read more

New Shoes, New Workout Plan, New Recipe

Posted by in Cooking, Healthier Choices

The New Year usually means changes for most of us. In my last post, here. I did sort of line out my plans for where I want to be at the end of the year, so that meant there would have to be changes. A large part of that is getting fit. Over the last almost two years, I have lost 90 pounds. The first 30, I did with diet and exercise. Then, I got sick with two rounds of shingles. Not the best way to spend the last four…read more
